Go Cubs Go! Staying Safe During Tomorrow's Celebrations

It's 108 years in the making.

Last night, the Chicago Cubs won the 2016 World Series in cinematic fashion, defeating the Cleveland Indians in extra innings amidst a deluge of rain.

City Hall announced today that the Cubs' victory parade would be held this Friday, 11/4, at 10 a.m. The parade is expected to start at Wrigley Field, ending with a rally in Grant Park. Millions of people are expected to descend on the city tomorrow, eager to participate in the festivities. But as the city has learned in the past, massive crowds tend to attract trouble. Here are some tips to stay safe while you celebrate the Cubs' historic win:

1. Plan on arriving to the city as early as possible to beat the traffic and get a optimal viewing spot for the parade.

2. Always take care of your belongings. Beware of pickpockets and petty thieves. Backpacks and other large bags may not be allowed into the rally for safety reasons, so have a secure spot to keep them, or better yet, leave them at home.

3. Stay with your group. It will be very easy to get lost in the crowds, and cell phone service is likely to be dismal. Stick together, and especially keep an eye on small children. Consider wearing bright, recognizable clothing so that you are easier to spot.

4. Be responsible. Some people may take the Cubbies's win as an excuse to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. For the sake of your health and the well-being of those around you, party within reasonable boundaries. You don't want to spend the night in the hospital or a jail cell.

5. Be prepared. At some point in the day, you may find yourself in an unsafe position. Be aware of your surroundings, and take note of all exits and security officials, just in case.

The Blackhawks' victory celebrations in 2010, 2013 and 2015 brought more than 2 million people to the city. Given its historical significance, tomorrow's festivities are expected to bring many, many more. If you take some preventative steps and are aware of your surroundings during the day, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to enjoy yourself.

For the first time in a century, next year is this year. Have fun, and Go Cubs!
